Session Notes
Locations
Our biggest request by far is for outdoor, on-location portraits but we also do in-home sessions as well. We find this to be very convenient for our clients and is less stressful. When scheduling your session, we'll decide together on the best location for you.
Clothing Colors and Patterns
When discussing location for your session, it's good to think about what you plan to dress your child in so we can talk about coordinating location colors with outfit colors. Here are some general guidelines
-Decide on a formal or casual look, then choose the wardrobe accordingly.
-Simplicity works best!
-Dressing identically works, but is not necessary. If you choose light tops, then everyone should wear light colored tops. If you choose dark pants, then everyone should wear dark pants. The very best wardrobe choices seem to be a single tone (monochromatic) for both tops and bottoms.
-Solid colors are best, avoid bright colors, logos, and patterns.
-Wardrobe should be simple and classic. You don't want your clothes to distract from you in your pictures.
-Some shots are close up, others are full length. Plan outfits completely.
-Also remember, as a general rule, light clothes look better on lighter backgrounds and darker clothes look better on darker backgrounds.
-Make sure clothes are ironed.
-If you wear a layered outfit, you can add or drop a piece for a different look.
-Make sure your clothing flatters you. If you think you have large arms, avoid sleeveless styles, they can make your arms look fuller.
If you'd like to step out a bit and add some character and pop to your session, coordinated color can be a lot of fun. Try bright or bold colors, or a favorite patterned outfit for a baby or child.
Children
a favorite toy, stuffed animal or blanket all make great accessories to show character in your images
It goes without saying, but children should be fed, rested, and healthy for our session. Hungry, tired or sick children do not make happy subjects.
